About Cassis

CassisDescribed as the fishing port of Provence, Cassis lies snuggled between the highest cliffs in Europe, Cap Canaille and the profound canyons of the Massif des Calanques. Most of the village was rebuilt in the 18 century on the old medieval site. but a walk through the streets does result in seeing some buildings dating back to the 16 century. The hub of Cassis is the magnificent port, where fishing boats share moorings with ocean going yachts and tourist boats that visit the Calanques.

The port is a wonderful place to stroll around dominated by a fine old 14 century Chateau and surrounded by fine restaurants, cafes and bars. Relax and enjoy Cassis's fine sandy beach just out side the port or play "petanque" in the historic elegant square of the hotel de ville. Cassis also supports many fine shops for your basic needs to the height of fashion.

Market day is every Wednesday and Friday plus there are two fetes, one in July for the patron saint of fishermen St Pierre and the other in September to celebrate the local wine harvest.
